Belt hitting engine bolt RYCA. more pics posted

I am building a RYCA kit. I re-installed the belt, rear wheel, etc. I noticed a running sound as I was rolling the bike out of my garage. After further investigating, i discovered that the belt is hitting one of the bolts. See pics. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this. If so, what should I do about it?

Hmmmm. Does it still rub when you're on the bike?

good point buddha, admittedly- sitting on the battery and frame posts wasn't the first thought on my mind when I first discovered the problem. I tried sitting on it and the belt doesn't seem to rub now, or at least I cannot hear it rubbing. My 145 pound frame doesn't compress the shocks much at all- probably only 1/4- 1/2" or so. I just wonder what happens each time I will hit a bump or something like that and the shocks decompress- is that belt going to periodically hit the bolt?

Mine did the same thing when I went to 12" Intruder shocks...
I replaced the bolt with a rounded head allen bolt and it cleared....
Ace hardware...

at a minimum, replace the bolt with a allen socket cap round head bolt.
but yeah, shocks too long?
is the belt rubbing on the top of the swingarm too?

Also known as a button head bolt.

belt does not rub on top swingarm although the RYCA supplied belt guard rubs. I had to add a couple washers to it so that it wouldn't rub on top of belt. Good idea on the button head screw- I will replace that and hopefully solve the issue.

If that doesn't work try grinding down the spot the bolt mounts, looks like you only need a fraction of an inch. Aluminium is real easy to work with a dremel or a file if you can get at it.

So here are some more pics of my drive pulley. It seems like the belt is very close in several different areas. I did remove the drive pulley and re-install. I can't see how I possibly could have screwed up the re-installation since it only goes on one way. Maybe someone can take a look at these pics and see if everything looks OK as far as how close everything is. As you can tell, I removed that bottom engine bolt as seen in last couple pictures. I plan on replacing with a button head screw as recommended.

In the side view it looks like the belt curves up. Is it loose, or is that lens distortion? Also, in the top views, it look like the belt is snug against the inside of the pulley but away from the outside. Maybe your axle isn't aligned properly.

I thought the same thing looking at the side view. Any ideas what would be causing that? Belt too loose?
seems like the tension is OK, and i put the axle back on exactly the same as before I took it off. I did not adjust the tensioners. One would think it would still be OK.

I recommend all you Ryca guys check this...
It is caused by the taller rear shocks...
It;s not a huge problem, just replace with the buttonhead bolt.
I dealt with it years ago... if you leave the belt guard on, it needs to be modified slightly too...
I have a post on it somewhere, advising on Intruder 800 shock swap, if anybody finds it, link it here if you can. Might be helpful.

If the belt wants to track inward on the front pulley, it could mean the axle is slightly cocked. I question the accuracy of the tick marks on the swingarm. You might need to use something straight and rigid, like one of those long aluminum levels, placed across the faces of the two pulleys.
As for tension, the longer shocks tilt the swingarm down, which probably changes the tension on the belt.
