Stock Battery
06/06/11 at 10:56:10

i need to decide.

it still has the original batter from 2006. the bike only has 15XX miles on it.

last week the bike wouldn't start leaning on the kick stand, but it was starting sitting up right. so i figure it needs some more "water"

it holds some kind of a charge but not longer than 2 or 3 days.

Should i replace it?
or should i just refill it and hope it last longer?

I wanted to ride it SO bad yesterday that I almost pushed it down the hill. But if it didn't start I wasn't pushing it back up. Its a BIG hill.

Guess 5 years is enough.

What am I looking at? For?

Here's what I (and alot of other folks here) have, if you want AGM.  Its super!  Some folks have reported finding a matching acid battery at WalMart for around $50ish.  And your local AutoZone/Advance/etc. may have a compatible battery too.

I must be closer to them, the calculator only shows $12.29 for me.  Sorry.  And I'm thinking I only paid about $55 for mine a couple years ago.  I think Battery Mart carries the same battery too, free shipping, or you might have a local Battery Mart store.  http://batteries.batterymart.com/search/index?query=etx-15l

The one in the thread you referenced is smaller in size, but I guess it work fine...  there are a few options, so someone else will chime in eventually.

If you have a Batteries Plus store near you, they carry batteries for the Savage.  They have a website with an search function to locate which battery depending on the model year of your bike.

I went with Big Crank also... was still cheaper than a AGM battery through my local bateries plus store.. Think i only paid around $12 for shipping too!

Etx15L! Is that the correct one?

does it fit in the stock space without MODS?

Will I be able to move it into the airbox space later on, or even the swing arm spot like the link above?

does it fit in the stock space without MODS?  Yes and no, you need to bend a tab up on the battery cable.

 YES and NO

should fit in air box space
for the under swing arm mod you need one less than 4" high.

Just read there claims...

"The BigCrank battery may be installed in any orientation except inverted without sacrificing any performance attributes."

You guys think that's true?

I got my Big Crank Battery April '08.

Last year I put the garage away with the headlight and key on.  Next morning I took one of the wife's cars to work.  Charged it overnight after work.

About two days later I did it again, Friday after work.  Saturday the battery is too flat to light anything. About six hours to charge and enough to started the bike.

A week later again.  Switched the charger from 2 amp to 10 amps, was running an hour later.

Running a battery down to zero is not good.  For me, three times have always killed a flooded battery (I have done this a few times.)  The Big Crank AGM battery revived, and is still running a year later.

Next time I need a vehicle battery I will be getting another Big Crank.

If you had the original battery for five years, why would you want to change? The Yuasa original replacement can be had for around $60. Just my opinion.
