The screws to hold the carb top and float bowl in place aren't high-torque, high-stress applications.
When I need replacements for critical applications (the engine and drive train, for example) I get the OEM fasteners. I only get aftermarket fasteners for non-critical applications. Since I don't know what the SAE ratings of stock fasteners are, some of my aftermarket fasteners might actually be rated higher than necessary. I rarely get them from the hardware store. I have an online sources where I can quickly search using various criteria -- size, material, finish, grade, etc. I can get oddball fasteners the hardware stores don't carry. And I can get them cheaper. The shipping costs are less than the value of the time I would spend going to the store and rummaging through their bins. But if I need a fastener right
now, I'll go to the store and hope they have what I need.
However, I'm still trying to find a source with a wide assortment of M10 bolts and nuts with
1.25 pitch threads instead of 1.5 pitch.
