Feeling Shiftless
05/25/11 at 10:08:19

Last weeks ride to The Dragon just about finished the rear tire on Yellow Bob. Monday looked like a good day to take off in a different direction, so the Majesty got the nod since it has been neglected since the Savage came to share the garage.
Yes, I'm certified "Scooter Trash" and can be pretty "shiftless" at times.

We headed North on the East side of the Blue Ridge with an appetite for lunch in Mt. Airy, NC home of Andy Griffith and inspiration for the Mayberry stories.

After a nice ride up through Wilkesboro, we arrived in time for a meal at "Snappy Lunch" right next door to Floyd' Barbershop.

Don't miss the pork chop sandwich...Yum!

We thought it might be a good idea to move on after lunch, since it felt like someone was keeping an eye on us.

Heading North, we found the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed the higher elevation and views.

You don't usually see warnings like this!....

Maybury Mill on the Parkway is a nice place to visit...Hey! We are in Virginia.

We rambled back into North Carolina to set up camp at Hanging Rock St. Park.

A good night's sleep came after a little "caveman TV" (looking at the fire)  Cheesy

Tuesday morning we headed back towards home enjoying a bit more Parkway.

Quite a contrast, Eh? The big scoot is really nice for the long haul and loading all the comforts for camping.

When I see this, I know home is close. Another fine ride. Thanks for coming along!

My other bike is a Suzuki Burgman 650, so I am 'scooter trash' too (have the patch to prove it).  Grin Looks like you had a nice ride.

Baby Hog, I have seen 100 on the speedometer and 93 on the GPS. Did that briefly and it was enough. It will cruise at 70 in comfort all day long. My riding buds with HD's and other big bikes hate it when I show up on the scoot. Really blows their image and it rags them how a "scooter" keeps up with them on the highway and eats them up in the twisties. Grin  They don't like the way "Yellow Bob" runs them down either. 11,500 enjoyable miles so far.
That Burgman of 12Bravo's is the true rocket ship. It will break the "Ton" w/o a sweat and humble the Hardleys. The "Goldwing" of the maxi scoots!

12Bravo, I hope you have not been affected by the tornadoes. Really scary scenes of the damage out there. Shocked I rode out to St. Louis last June for the H.A.M.S Rally. Great folks, neat roads and fine hospitality. Just over 2000 miles rt on the scoot. This year's event will be in K.C. Don't think I will make that one with all the rough weather.

We had a couple of funnel clouds this afternoon. We are surviving so far. Yes I love my Burgman, I put cruisers to shame with it  Grin I have hit 100mph on it according to GPS. I did it just to say I went that fast on a scooter.

Apparently you've never put up a tent on some nice dirt with a little root, rock, or acorn between your shoulders all night. Plus, "Scooter Trash" folks usually carry a little roll up mat to continue the nice ride they had all day.  Grin

Driller, as usual great pics and a wonderful story as well.
Your Scooter looks like it would be a blast to ride.
I have to ask you, do you keep a photo book and
log of all your adventures?
If not, you should.
I agree with John, the Mill Pond is my faorite.
Thank you so much for sharing.. Smiley kim

No,, Ive always managed to find decent dirt, but had plenty O fluffy stuff to lay on, so, maybe there was an acorn or 3 down there,, I guess cement would at least avoid having to manicure the site,, after thinking about it, I guess it could be better,  just struck me odd,.

The guy that came up with the idea of graveling camp sites should be drawn n quartered!
Man, sitting around the fire at night listening to the nightlife, sipping some good bourbon and watching the fire. Add a good meal and a warm woman and your in heaven...lol
