Controls Forward on Later Models ?
05/15/11 at 21:25:30
Does anyone know about the controls being farther forward on later model s-40s,.......so that they are not so apt to need "forward controls" ?
Or worded another way,
does anyone know for a fact that all the late model s-40s controls are in the same placement as pre '09 models ?
Thanks

I am pretty sure they are the same as they've always been.

Considering Suzuki's financial situation and the low status of the S-40 in its product line, along with the fact they didn't import any new models a year or so ago, there would be little reason to change the bike (other than paint) except to make it cheaper to build. Moving the pegs forward slightly would also mean lengthening the brake and shift linkages. That means more design time, more materials, new tooling -- for what return? How many more S-40s would they have to sell to recoup the costs?

Thanks guys, I had originally asked Routy
this question. I am thinking of adding forward
controls to Genie. I was told she already has
forward controls. In looking at other pics of
older bikes, it didn't appear to me that her
controls were more forward than older years.
so now it seems the question has been answered.
Thanks Arteacher and Motobutta for your knowledge.
Routy, I will be in touch with you soon.. Hugs, kim

There's basically 3 different styles of foot locations on stock bikes.
1-rearsets (similar to cafe bikes or squid bikes where your feet are behind your arse and you are more or less laying on your bike)
2-mid or standard (where your feet are directly under you similar to a motorcross/dirt bike)
3-forward (where your feet are extended in front of your body, like many cruiser bikes including the Savage/S40)
Routy and EdL make the "extended" forward controls moving the controls 4"-6" further

Yeah, if your feet are in front of the engine, you have forward controls.
