So the first bike I remember riding with my Dad was identical to this bike..

I had to have one and stumbled across this one with a brand new fairing and trunk from the early 80's that had been stored...The bike had several new parts stored in the trunk that the guy I bought it from didnt know about...I picked it up for $200.00 and was very happy with thoughts of a Cafe Racer in my future...Well my wife saw the bike and sat on it...The next words were bittersweet...Honey I like this bike and I think it will be my bike...So this is the next project restoring it back to semi original for her...My Cafe Racer will have to wait...

Hey, just put a big smile on your face and say "Honey this bike actually came as a cafe racer but someone must of turned it into a daily rider. let me restore it back to the way it should be" It's worth a try. Wink

Looks like it should clean up nicely.

You got such a good deal, maybe you can find another one, and let her choose!  Then maybe you'll end up with this one.  Keep us posted on your progress!

Piglet, It is cleaning up very nice the chrome is mainly surface rust...Very little pitting... Piglet, I would love to give her a choice...But I think the next bike purchase way down the road is going to be a touring bike...

Serow...That would be a dream come true finished product...

Silly Ogre, that is a cute lil bike..
I would love to ride that.
It would surprise me if your wife
didn't want it for herself..
Did you by chance see how to clean
the chrome, in the daily hot tips section?
Check it out. A few here have tried that
and claims it works..
Keep us informed on how this bike
is cleaning up.
Also if your wife claims it for herself..Smiley kim

I bought a new one in 1976 for $700. Back then the speed limit was 55 and that's all the bike anyone needed.

An easy way to clean chrome is to use 4 aught steel wool and naval jelly. Used to use it on chrome steel car wheels.

We had one of those come into the shop in 06. Had 6 original miles on it. Only took a month to get it cleaned up and running like new. Took 6 months to get our other shop to send back the matching gas tank... They didn't want to take time to clean it, so put a junkyard special on it. Cheap f***s. Ask KC1, she's dealt with that shop.

Cafe racer? This one used to be... Started out as a CL (Scrambler)...

Wil end up a dirt tracker after it is used as a model for the Savage Scrambler conversion (rubber side down section). Unless somebody makes me an offer I can't refuse and comes to get it...

Seems we talk guns around here almost as much as bikes.  Well, maybe not, but we do likes our guns...   Wink  What do you and your wife shoot?  Hubby got me into guns a few years ago, just got my very own first rifle last fall.  Savage Edge .223.  Shot a golf ball at 125 yards with it a few weeks ago.  Not bad for a beginner...

Oh, and I just noticed your comment about your Dad having a bike like that.  I don't remember what my Dad's bikes were, but they all looked like that one too.  I suppose that's where I got my love for bikes, and everybody else in my family hates them.  But they never picked and cleaned gravel out of his calfs like I did!  haha
