Head light options...

Post up what your running on your bike pics and any info about the light..

My bike is pretty much stock.

first things I'm changing

Head light
forward controls
Turn signals
Seat
Fender

And more

But pretty much in that order.

I've been riding my GSXR with HIDs for over a year. Best money ever spent. Not sure if thoses would be an option on the young savage!

I'm wanting to use a huge headlight on my RYCA CS-1.  I'm trying to find something like what was stock on a Yamaha xv920r, or an xj650r, or a couple of years of the early 80's Suzuki GS1150es.  These bikes had an 8" lens in a 9" bucket.  At night, the sun was mounted on the front of the bike.  Besides, they have quite a "cool factor."

Any ideas on how to find some sort of a huge headlight?

Big headlights? You can get up to 10" diameter round ones pretty easy. Hot Rod shops or big rig aftermarket suppliers (try googling Iowa 80).

Large rectangular? Do a search for motorcycle salvage yards. XV920 stuff is getting collectible so parts prices are going up.

Mine has a 7" Emgo replica Lucas/Bates sidemount with the sheetmetal "holey" brackets. Bucket is $40 something, mounts are around $20. The lens and other guts are seperate from the bucket and run between $20 and $60. Outperforms the stock 5.75" bottom mount 1000 fold.

Where are the 10" diameter headlights available?  I've been searching the internet for weeks, and have found only 9" for around $200 for the assembly. (and only one of those)  There are new universal headlights available that are about 8" bucket diam holding a 7" lens, for around $100.

Don't want rectangular.

Think outside the box for large round. Big rig and hot rod aftermarket, farm equipment aftermarket.

Gixxer stuff? Pick up Cycle World (I know, horrible magazine) and look in the advertiser section for a sport bike graveyard. Used stuff should list for roughly 50% of OEM new retail price, but the yards go by the most current catalogs...

Used to work at a bike junkyard. A lot of my stuff was free (hidden dings, minor blems, mispackaged, etc). My Savage would run around $10k to replicate, I think the whole thing including buying it brand new ran me around $7k.

I have a 1981 Seca 650 (XJ650RJ) and occasionally find headlights and buckets on eBay.

I can't think outside the "box"!

I work in a cubical!

Stunters use fog lights!
I've never owned a car with fog lights. Are they worth a crap?

P.S. After droping my bike off the trailer, that list above has changed drastically!

Lucas Square 8 lamps, two pairs, driving and fog.

I do not over drive my lights.

Went up the Tioga Pass at night, 60-80 mph.  As I would catch up behind someone I would kill the pencils.  Closer I would kill my stock high beams and the fogs, now using his lights to see the road.  As I passed the other vehicle he will kill his high beams;  I would hit the high beams and all four Lucases.  Unbelievable difference.

I'm new here, but I have to admit I'm stumped by certain contextual elements in this pic. The rifle/shottie might not throw me at all if it weren't for what appears to be a blazer or dinner jacket. We hunt a little more casual here in the East TN hills, but then we're pretty red. Plus CA is known to be a bit classier in general.

It's a Harris Tweed jacket/blazer/sport coat -- I got it from Scotland around '67 (the picture is from about '73 or '74.)  Harris Tweed is an extremely tough material.

The firearm is a Spainish clone of a circa 1900 English shotgun, a .410 bore external hammer side by side.  Just about 4.5 pounds.  Picked it up around '71 or so.

Love it! Love the shottie too. I've had a few spanish 12s.
Shutting up now to allow this thread to get back topic.

I just got my 2nd Savage, 24 yrs after the first one. Looking for some inspiration on the headlight myself. More pics out there?

Oh, yeah...  back to those Lucas Square 8's ....

Both white lights.  The fog has an about 60 dregee spread, even, with a very flat top.  Lots of light on the city street, no light blinding anyone.  Use one as your low beam and you will have all the light you need.

The driving light is a pencil.  The light is focused straight ahead and will light the highway far enough to be safe at 80 mph.

Maybe a bracket to stagger lights above:
Hmmm...  Those lights were removed when I sold the Pinto in '77, my uncle has then currently mounted on his motorhouse and I want them back.

My current light is:
Check the cheesy mount ... four pieces of aluminum angle drilled and bolted.
