Mustang Seat
04/14/11 at 19:03:12

Ok I noticed that the last guy to introduce himself showed a picture with a Mustang Seat. I have sent him a PM with no response. I am wondering if anyone knows where to find one. I have searched every where and cannot even find evidence of Mustang making one. I am wondering if this is a more comfortable seat for the rear passenger. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Would a Sporter seat work without major modification?

I'm guessing it's probably one for a different bike, refitted for the Savage.  No idea which one's can be fitted to it though. Undecided

I saw that posting and have meant to pm him also, but hadn't done it yet.  Would love to know more details too.

I got mine cheap (like $25?) on Ebay, the seller stated it was for an older model Ironhead.  The shape looked similar, so I figured I could adapt it.  Well, the seat pan was way WAY off, so I took both seats apart and put the Mustang cover and guts on my S40 seat pan.  Didn't like my job with it, so I took it to a prefessional upholsterer and he did a much better job!  He added a little leather/vinyl between the seat sections.  Only charged me $40 or $50, so I was still happy.  It was missing a stud or two, but I ordered new studs directly from Mustang, so that worked out too.  I'm glad I did it, it is very comfortable and I love the looks of it. (the slight hump is a raw gel pad, which he said would smooth in, but it hasn't yet, so I'm gonna take it apart and adjust soon)  Easy swap?  No.  But worth it to me!

I don't ride a passenger, so I can't help with that part, sorry.  I have sat on it and it seems like it would be pretty comfortable.  I'll get my son to take me for a ride on it someday, so I can check out my own passenger seat!

I couldnt find a mustang seat either for the savage so I went with the Corbin seat and absolutely love it!  Passengers like it better too, it also gives a little bit of back support since the passenger part is about 1-2 inches taller than the stock one.

Hey everybody. I just saw Orge's PM last night and responded to him. I just now saw this thread.

The Mustang seat I have put on my bike is for 96-03 Harley Sportsters.
This is the seat I have:
http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Mustang_Original_Studded_Seat_Sportster_9...

Here is a non-studded version:
http://www.amazon.com/Mustang-75741-Harley-Davidson-Sportster/dp/B001HT5M60

A buddy of mine who owns a 96 Sporty gave me the seat. He bought it several years ago and had since then upgraded to a wider seat.
It wedges into place perfectly if you have your rear backrest still in place. I had to bend down the bar on the rear fender than the stock seat clipped under. I moved the regulator rectifier from underneath the passenger area to underneath the driver's seat. It gets some airflow to it now because the Mustang seat sits up higher than the stock seat and leaves a bit of a gap. I'll take a picture that shows how well it fits/does not fit for those interested.

The seat is not actually mounted to the bike. I know that's not a good or safe idea. I've ridden around like that for 800miles now without it budging an inch however. I could drill a hole in the rear fender to give the rear tab on the seat a place to mount.

Pictures of the seat fitment:
