I just tighten the decomp cable to where it has a little wiggle room in the cable when it's down...

Good place to start.
If it takes more than a couple turns to start, it's too tight.
If it stalls when starting, then it's too loose.

Forgive what may be a silly question....
What does the decomp solenoid do?  Why is it there?

Until the engine is up to a minimum speed, it doesn't have enough momentum to rotate thru the compression stroke.
So, for the 1st 1/2 second of rotation, the decomp (decompression) solenoid opens the exhaust valve.

It electronically holds open your exhaust valve to prevent that big piston from producing too much compression for the starter to overcome...
It gives the starter motor a running start at turning over the engine...
Wink...

Versy beat me again...
Funny how differently we explain the same thing...

How 'bout this explanation?...
Ever try to blow your nose when it's completely plugged?... and instead of getting anywhere,... your ears pop...
That's your engine without a decomp...
Grin....
