Mikuni Carb Question
03/06/11 at 09:27:17

I tried to order a Lancer carb but he went offline a few months ago, and now I am looking to do my own.

I got a Mikuni 38mm VM Roundslide and ordered the thunder products UFO and dial a jet.

Got the dial a jet cause I dont know anything about carb tuning and dont know all of the mods I plan to do yet. Moto is all stock except a Supertrap muffler. I plan on replacing the stock filter with a KN as well.

So my question is this, do i need anything extra to install the mikuni? New clamps, gaskets, fittings, cables, hoses? I noticed Lancer talked about a custom throttle cable in his kit and figure I am going to need one of those but dont know what to look for or where to get it.

As described in Lancers post I figure I need at least these two items:

Custom Throttle Cable by Barnett (specs for ordering?)
Rubber flange with new SS bolts (part numbers?)

Thanks for the help!

Got the UFO installed today. Super easy. The holes drill very very easily.

Anybody out there know which flange part to get? Found some listings on dennis kirk and phat performance:

Found the info in an old post:

Mikuni Part number I-VM36-200-1

Link to SUDCO catalog

Found a filter for it too. K&N wasnt my first choice, but I found one that will work after the air box and battery get moved with the RYCA kit.

Any other suggestions out there for a filter with 62 mm ID?

Found the custom cable page for Barnett. Anyone have any suggestions on dimensions? Mine is for a 2007 S40, and I noticed it has a small clamp with screw for holding it in the throttle body.

I dont want to take my cable off to measure, so if someone could measure their stock cable and provide me the info that would be great!

Year, Make, Model: 2007 Suzuki S40
Carb, What Type, Size, etc: Mikuni 38mm Round Slide VM
Throttle, Stock, Aftermarket: Stock

Elbow, if Applicable, Bend: ???

I believe there are going to be two elbows, one 90 degree at the carb and one 130 at the throttle.

Elbow Thread size: ???

Any suggestions on this? Is this for the carb or throttle?

Casing Designation: Classic Black Vinyl
Casing Length: ??? Going to make my cable two inches shorter than stock
Exposed Wire Length: ??? (Pull inner cable to one end.)

Here is a pic of a cable matching mine:

Barnett custom cable. According to lancer there are 6 different types of
Cables from Barnett that fits different years of the savage. This diagram was given to me for my 10/2006 Suzuki. If you have anymore questions talk to joe@barnettclutches.com he will be more than welcome to help you out.

Thanks. Going to measure what is needed for the RYCA kit and see if it needs to be shorter for proper fit. I am guessing it will be several inches shorter.

Hey s40fan, how did these mods work out? I am planning on doing the same thing. I am not worried about the air box, and battery box, as I am pretty good at cutting and welding, so I should be able to remove the air box and weld new clips in to hold the sides in place. Same goes for the battery box. Did you buy a new mikuni? Was it basic jetting in the carb? And how did the dial a jet work? I would like to have a part number for the right carb, and info on where to get all the necessary jets/parts to supe it up. I am not sure if dial a jet is the answer or not. any help will be appreciated!
