Help with buying a used savage
02/24/11 at 00:38:18

I am currently looking for my first road bike, and I really am leaning towards the savage.  Here is a CL listing I have been looking at.  Does anyone have any feedback on this bike. Anything specific I should be paying attention to? Thanks!

If its had a new cam chain installed, youre good to run a while. IF not, its right at the mileage when it will be needing  cam chain.

I bought a 2004 with 4000 miles for 1,900.00 in the phoenix market. My bike was in very good condition. I would be looking at a kelly blue book price for your market. This looks a little high IMHO.

Seems a bit steep to me too. I bought a 2005 with 4300 on it for $1,900. Like the other guys say it will need a cam chain around 15-20K miles...

I think it is too much for the bike.

I just bought a 2007 with 2,400 miles on it for $2,200 in Omaha, NE

Are '01's silver?
I got an '02 and it's black.

$700 could be the cam chain work, it would be good to look over what was done.

seat cover will set you back $100  Wink

otherwise $1800 is a bit high especial knee high in snow.

Kabuki, what's the number on the engine block?

Looks like they replaced the engine or blew up the head.

Not that it couldn't be repaired.  I just would prefer to know.
