Spacer mod question
02/08/11 at 05:13:21

I recently tried my hand at the white spacer mod. I sanded the little devil down to half thickness and noticed I sanded it on a slant. Not wanting to put it back in the carb like that I opted for an alternative. I couldn't find any washers small enough lying around, I did however find some o-rings. Its just a typical rubber o-ring, but it has all the same dimensions as the washer, just half its thickness. (which is what I wanted) Any objections to using this? Or should I go out and spend the extra 45 cents on some washers?

I dont know what to tell ya about the O-ring, but next time youre sanding something you want to keep flat, try rotating it as you slide it across the sandpaper.

When I did my spacer mod I bought 4 3mm (I think) stainless washers from ACE Hardware. 4 of these washers was about the default thickness of the white spacer. I used only 2 of them for half the thickness.

Alright, I frankly didn't know the exact purpose of the washer so I wasn't sure. I'll go out and get me some 3mm washers

I sanded it on a slant.

Would it really matter if it's slanted? It's wedged between to parallel surfaces which will compress to whatever the thickest part of the spacer is.

The needle sits on a spring and goes thru a hole into another hole.
The washer holds the needle down but doesn't provide alignment.
It may be fine, but it would be better if it were flat just to get rid of that nagging feeling.
