Altering the speedometer face markings
01/19/11 at 17:28:22

I was thinking about doing a chain and lower gearing on the bike, but felt annoyed at the idea that the speedometer would be off a percentage.  So I found an article on this site that shows you how to replace your gauge backing and reset your mileage(slightly illegal).

http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1611

just make sure to acurately put the new speed in place of the old speed so 60mph becomes 66mph if you changed your drive ratio by 10%.

Tampering with the odometer is illegal.

And if remarking the faceplate is your goal, why not just apply stickers to the glass?

I bought an American bike (MPH) and I live in Canada. After 1200 miles of riding I am still not used to doing the mental math required to convert to KPH. Is there a legal alternative to having the dealer install a new speedo? (big bucks).
Years ago my dad bought a Volvo that had MPH on it and the dealer put a sticker in the speedo that read in KPH

You don't have to change the odometer to 0.. and actually if you did so long as you stated on the title actual mileage unknown I think it's still legal.. If you swap out the odometer on any vehicle you have to change the title to unknown mileage.   It's fraud if you tell someone it has less miles than it actually does.

If you put numbers on the outside it'd make it harder to see the indicator wouldn't it?  This one is nice

has indicator lights on it.. Smiley
