that is not a hat it's his head, he has the dreaded ball on the head desease,it doesn't last very long and it just leaves a minor headache.
But on rare ocasions it strikes down below then it's called the ball on the balls desease,a very weighty problem, and can make you walk funny.

Reminds of that classic Star Trek episode, Bread and Circuses, where the Enterprise winds up at a planet where the predominate culture is Classic Roman, though technologically advanced to roughly 20th Century Earth. This culture still retains gladitorial contests, typical Roman brutality and even the persecution of a group of folk McCoy mistakes for "Christians" because they worship the "Son" ... but it wasn't the Son of God they worship as the Crew later discovers, but rather The Sun ...

No, Mick, I'm thinking what we're seeing here is an Early Conehead, before completely evolving to the Firm Tipped Cone.

And in Mexico, Our Lady of Guadalupe may well be an update of the Aztec goddess Tonantzin.

"...Tepeyac was also dedicated to the Mesoamerican mother goddess Tonantzin, and these pre-Christian Aztec associations parallel the Catholic version."

Sort of like taking the pagan Yuletide evergreen and making it a Christmas tree.

Yeah, the early (first to third century) Christians adopted the Roman solstice celebrations for Christmas so they could "stay under the radar" of the authorities.  After the Romans adopted Christianity as their official religion, it spread into Gaul (then defined as Europe north of Italy) and they co-opted the Yule symbols, giving them Christian meanings and associations.

Sort of their way of not re-inventing the wheel and letting the folks keep their favorite celebrations.
