lowering forks 1 1/2"
12/22/10 at 11:53:10
So I'm looking to lower my front end 1 1/2" but not necessarily decrease travel. would it be as simple as cutting the two spacers that sit inside of the fork uppers? Ideally I would like to just buy a new set of lowering springs for the forks, but no one makes them
. Any help would be much appreciated.

You could just move the spacers from the top of the fork tubes to just under the top of the damper rods (in line with the top-out springs). That will lower the forks by the length of the spacers without the slop of just removing them. I am assuming the Savage forks are pretty much the same design as the DR650's. Could be wrong.

I did the same thing to my DR and it worked fine. I'm pretty sure that it'll work on the S40 also. BTW, it takes a special tool to make the change. I was told that it cost is $75 and the dealer would make the change for me for the same cost. And that's what I did.

Yep, that's what I'm talkin' bout Willis. But dang, those savage spacers are long! In order to lower just 1.5 inches, cut that length off your spacers and use the cut piece for the spacer at the top of the damper rod:

You'll still end up decreasing travel.
