My sister came accross this in the Portland News paper.
People who treat their pets like family members now have a name.
Not the owner ,the pets are called "Furkids" , Can you emagen how your neighbor will look at you after you called your Dog ,and he hasn't come ,you will say "Where is that little furkid " even so,I do like it.
So now my little Missy is my very own furkid.
ps, anyone heard that before ?

i've used the term "fur family" when refering to the mrs. and the pets.
we were not blessed with children so our pets have filled the bill somewhat.
i sometimes wonder how people live while children, the thought of the loss of them would be unbearable.

one of my dogs got mowed over right in front of me.
it looked like the dog was protecting me he ran out and stood the car down. woman didnt ever see him, she did stop, i just waved her away without words.

By definition, your dogs are members of your family.

At least if they are house dogs, pets. Johnnie, the big mutt the north, is a member of their family. Muffin, the poor little white mutt in the house to the south, is kept outside and is not a member of the family.

I like & want to get those back window stick people with pets to put on the back window of the wife's car.....have not found the right style yet - two big people and three dogs big, medium and tiny and two cats one normal and one big....all live in the house and are more well behaved than some children......and are a lot of fun, provide great companionship, they work hard (watch dogging) and provide unconditional affection.

I love my babies:

Ginger 30lb Chow/Lab mix 10yr old
Bo 20 lb Terrier mix 10yr old
"Mr. Peanut" 5lb long haired Chihauhau aka "King of the World" 7yr old
Charlotte 8lb black cat "The Princess" 12yr old
Sophie grey tiger cat "Big Girl" 18lb 5yr old

Big Girl, I'd say!

I'm still trying to train my Bug (Pug/Boston Terrier mix). He's over a year old but he still wants to chew everything. Particularly wood! Corners of my steps, baseboards... ugh! And digs in corners anywhere. He was getting much better, but the other day he chewed a piece of carpet about 3"x3" square. It was next to a doorway and had a little slit cut where there used to be a folding door bracket. Guess that made it easy for him to get at. The little sh!t.

But I love them anyway.
Jake - 12 year old MinPin. Maybe 10lbs. He's the king.
Roscoe - almost 5 year old PomaPoo. Maybe 10lbs. He's the furball.
Dudley - little over a year old. He probably weighs 22lbs.
They are all black. Jake is black/tan, but the tan on legs has turned gray from age. Roscoe has some silver hairs, but it mostly black. Dudley has a big white diamond patch on his chest. Lovable critters, all 3.

Our 4 legged kids are all spoiled rotten.
I belive I am running a convelescent home for the 2 large dogs. Both have health issues.
We have special blankets for them to lay on in the lliving room and bedroom. These blankets are washed every other day.
"John Wayne" is a 132 lb Rotten Rowdy Rottweiler. We have had him since he was about 8 weeks old. He just turned 8.
Sam is our 90 lb female Lab. I have had her since birth. Her Mom was a Golden Retriever and her dad a yellow Lab.
Sam has gone deaf on me and has liver problems.
Both do very well and keep us on our toes at times. John Wayne sleeps by my side of the bed. No one will ever get in this house as long as he is alive.
Oscar our lil Dachshund sleeps snuggled under the covers.
The 3 cats, Christopher, Linus and Charlie tolerate the dogs being in and have laid down the inside rules. haha.
They all know the special cupboard where the goodies are kept and all I have to do is head towards it and they either sit and wait, or else go to the back door to be let out.
Like 2 legged kids they all have their own personalities and little quirks.
I will post pics of them soon.

I love my daughters and I loved our dog Biscuit ... a beagle/setter cross who was my very best friend and faithful companion for 13 1/2 years ... a more gentle soul I have never known. This past Fall her kidneys and bladder started to fail and on Nov. 2nd, we had to have her euthanised ... at the vets, my ex, my daughters and I sat in circle on a floor mat, No. 1 daughter holding Biscuit in her ams as the doctor administered the shot. Hardest thing I've ever experienced in my life to this point was watching the light of life leave that wonderful animal ... Sad

Perry, my condolances to you. Losing a pet no matter what kind it is, is a hard thing to deal with.
I know from past experiences myself that it takes time to overcome the grief one experiences when this happens.

Last Nov 5, I had my lil Betsy laid to rest. She was a companion to me for 13 years. She had been abandoned along an old logging road as a pup and I happened to find her. This was the day after Christmas. She
used to go to work with me everyday and welcome customers into the shop. She would lay down right in front of them. They either had to step over her or bend down and rub her belly.. ahahah.. 9 out of 10 times she got a belly rub.. Grin

I have her pics on my refrigerator and dresser. Her collar is there as well.
It again was a very hard decision to make and yet I know it was time. You see as they were prepping her, she had a seisure and passed right there before the fluid could be administered. I was right there and was able to give her the last kiss and hug.

Remember the good times and know you gave your per the best home it could ever have hoped to have.
I have not nor have any intensions of getting another dog. I know I could never have one like her.
I will admit I look, yet seems I just can't make that commitment now.
And if I never do, I will be ok. As I do know what it was to have loved and been loved back. OUr animals are like our own flesh and blood. At least in this house.
I refer to them as our 4 legged kids. Wink
