you sure look the part Gort, what bike was it ? do you remember ?
I hope you got a new front tire.  Looks like a two stroke.?

It was a 1954 Harley Davidson Hummer, and was a 2 stroke.  I bought it from a farmer down the road who had it and a 1936 Harley V twin in his barn, for sale.  I test drove the $50.00 V-Twin, but didn't like the steerhorn handlebars or the massive running boards, and didn't like the fact that at idle, the engine got so hot that it felt like it was going to burn my legs.  The Hummer was $25.00 and easier to manage.  I drove the Hummer for about a year, unregistered with an illegal license plate, and with no driver's license.  I knew little about mechanics at that time and had no $, so I rode the bike as it was.  I also knew nothing about bike helmets, which is why I wore a steel military helmet which would have crushed my head if I had fallen with it on.

I just keep liking you better all the time Gort..
I knew a guy who made straight A's. He TOLD them not to put him in the National Honor Society.

They did it, anyway.

He dropped a few grades to lose eligibility.
They dropped him from the rolls.
He went back to straight A's..

One time in 10th grade the chemistry teacher caught me discretely angling for a better view down the blouse of a girl, who was bent over a sink during a group experiment.  He loudly said that I should pay more attention watching the experiment rather than looking down Mary's blouse.  I was humiliated, so I looked at him and said " Those that can, do.  Those that can't, teach."  I got sent home for that.

It was 165cc and the design was DKW.  The allies lifted the DKW design after WW2, and it was copied and modified by Harley, BSA and Yamaha.

Since we are doing old pics, here is a pic of me taken in the late '60s, about to leave to attend my H.S. graduation.  I decided to piss off the school faculty because I didn't like their faces, so I bought Nazi medals from an antique store and pinned them to my graduation gown and rode to the ceremony, with the gown on.  I kept my Nazi bike Helmet on, and sat down among the other graduates.  I was told to leave unless I take all the crap off.  So I left.

Great pics...look at the eyes of his dad in the first pic.  Wide open and wild, as if he was in mortal combat.
