you would have to drill a hole big enough for that bike to go a foot deep before I could get on it, that sure is a tall bike.

Yep. My right leg seemed to be getting shorter when putting it down after mounting the bike, especially when loaded with gear and a full gas tank! Tongue Just one of the reasons I retired from riding the dual sport bikes this year.
One good thing about "riding tall" is you can look those SUV drivers right in the eye! Grin

Here is a view from the top of Mt. Greylock in Western Mass.
Not true wilderness, but certainly not downtown. Wink

Mick,
Yes, those knobs do "sing" on the highway. Sounds sort of like a "redneck limo". You know, those raised trucks with the really chunky tires. Grin
They have a pretty good grip on the pavement......

Not too rough either, I rode this one from the UP of Michigan down I 75 to home this September. If we could meet over a coffee I could tell you the whole story. Tongue

Driller are you located in Virginia? I frequent the less traveled roads in south and sothwestern Virginia. If you hevent ridden it yet try SR42. Its about my alltime favorite scenic ride. Ride it several times a year and when I go up there its a 300 to 400 mile round trip, its so beautiful to me its worth it. You'll see a lot of beautiful Amish farms and since its predominately Amish there is very little traffic. Watch out for the deer. Next time I'll take my camera.

Midnightrider,
Like you, I am a Tarheel (well, for three years now). Living in Tryon (Polk Co.)
Yes, SR42 is nice. We explored part of it and some neat dirt roads nearby during a trip to Burkes Garden last spring.
Hope to meet you on the road sometime.
Cheers!

You might enjoy this...

Some popular Routes for a Sunday Ride in Newfoundland here on the northeast Avalon Peninsula ...

Conception Bay Highway (Route 60) winds its way from St. John's to South River along the shore of Conception Bay thru many scenic towns and villages ...

Southern Shore Highway/Witless Bay Line (Routes 10 & 13) runs southeast of St. John's along part of the Irish Loop thru scenic Petty Harbour & Bay Bulls and across the Witless Bay Barrens to the Trans Canada Highway (Route 1)

Southern Shore Highway/Irish Loop/Salmonier Line (Routes 10 & 90). This 300+km Ride takes you southeast of St. John's along the Southern Shore thru quaint villages where folk still talk with the Irish "lilt" of their ancestors. Beautiful cliff-side vistas, stark barrens and wild beaches. The return leg along the Salmonier Line (Route 90) runs inland thru more small villages and beautiful forested countryside.

With talk beginning to start about the 2011 Dragon Ride, I thought this might be appropriate....

This road leaves Cade's Cove in the Smoky Mtn. NP near the grist mill and comes out about midway on 129 aka The Dragon.
A fun ride with several water crossings...

Unless it has been raining a lot, a Savage would get through just fine. I saw a photo of a lady doing it on a Buddy scooter. Wink

Looks like a nice "Pack a lunch , and bring the wife".

I'm itching for riding weather enough to take short trips in 40 deg.
