(couple years ago) Folks- authority does not make someone right. The US has repeatedly engaged in shameful acts and lied about it. Bush still claims waterboarding is not torture. -sickos.
Berlusconi- Bush - Merkel - Sarkozy - Blair, different abilities- but all bad people.
I'll tell you more.
The Director of the Military Secret service was uncloaked, accused of "looking the other way" and charged with being an accessory to the unlawful kidnaping and incarceration in a foreign Country, accused of contempt of the Court because he would not answer the magistrates' questions, tried and eventually discharged in the 1st degree trial on the grounds "he could not disclose secrets relevant to national Security -
raison d'etat".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraordinary_rendition_by_the_United_StatesAs the investigations and trial covered many years, all this happened under both Berlusconi, a "Republican" by US standardsm, and Romano Prodi, by all means a "Democrat" (actually a Christian Socialist)
So the US Government and the CIA happily cooperated with an Italian Socialist Government.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imam_rapito_affairOf course, he never went to jail - we are talking about a 4-star general who served his Country in one of the most delicate jobs ever.
As for
Lupo and his remarks on kissing Nazi boots, you are evidently a very happy man, extremely lucky, you have never lived in a Country occupied by foreign powers.
Italy has been under foreign powers ever since the demise of the Roman Empire, until 1918. Then, again, from 1943 to this very day.
All you underline is your ignorance of history and your contempt for the defeated.
You seem to forget Italy is one of the founding member States of NATO.
You seem to forget we fought on the same side in WW1 - and that the US deployed ALL its Divisions on the French-UK front under General Pershing (in the spring of 1918).
The "Italian Contingent" of the US Army in Italy was... 1 (one) Regiment deployed in June 1918, compared to the 55 Divisions deployed by the Italians against the 60 Austrian Divisions.
You seem to forget we fought on the same side during the Civil War - Garibaldi deployed an Italian Regiment to fight with the US (Northern) Troops.
Mind you, Italian Regiments were the equivalent of half a US Division, they had their own artillery and engineer support, which US Brigades lacked.
So no, I do not "slam" at anybody, I simply say things the way they are.
I may seem too direct, and Verslagen, Paladin, Lancer, Mick, JOG, Starlifter, old time friends, have often corrected my "too openly frank" approach.
On the other hand, I do not recall ever being told "you are wrong" or "you lie".
