IN PAIN
11/18/10 at 00:47:40

After math of my 10 mph accident into the back of my friends bike.......
BIKE
Broken mirror, both front foot pegs bent along with shifter and brake arm. Dented tank. Broken front and rear turn signals

ME.........
Broken index finger, knuckle fractured ,wrist fracture and one broken rib. Every organ in my body is swollen. I have been going thru tests at the hospital (MRI's, Cat scans, blood tests and other stuff. Today it was a cat scan for a possible ruptured spleen. Everything inside of me hurts. Turns out the spleen is fine but the blow has caused considerable fluid to build up around my heart. Options are a drain tube in my chest or open heart surgery as a last resort. I feel like I"m having a heart attack 24 hours a day, and it's been a month since I crashed.
My first crash in 30 years of riding. I always was one of those to ride with no protection other than a full face helmet. Not anymore! Please don't make the same mistake as me. Wear the proper gear!

Stinger you got all that from a 10 MPH fender bender (more or less)
So sorry mate ,dang bad luck,is your buddy ok ?
What size are you ? I have a motorcycle jacket you can have,it's a medium the brand is "Wilson" it is quite heavy I don't know what the postage will be. It is quite old I did fix all the pockets ,they had little holes in em just enough to let dimes through into the lining, if you want I shall take a pic tommorow.
You are going to keep riding arent you ? Smiley
good luck,Mick

Hey, man, how did you get all that damage from a 10mph bump?
Tongue
Sorry to hear of your pain, but, look at the bright side, only minor damage to the bike and relatively minor damage to yourself.

I know "a broken wrist and a broken rib" sounds terrible, but...
...would you rather have suffered a broken ankle (stuck under a hot exhaust pipe, btw) and a punctured lung?

Fix the bike, buy some serious gear:
- heavy duty leather gloves (enduro style, not HD poser),
- hand guards (as on enduro bikes)
- riding boots (they protect the ankles and toes from being crushed)
- riding jacket (with elbow and shoulder pads)
- riding jeans (mine are double layer denim reinforced with kevlar fiber, and knee pads)

You'll still look the part, be very comfy, and be able to run all your errands without feeling like an astronaut.

Wink

PS Don't forget to check your front brake pads, they often soil with oil... Tongue soft as gook and won't brake anymore.

Having had "gone down" this past summer, I too feel your pain...but it could be much worse...

Hang in there and yep, wear the gear...

We're with you here, and many of us have been there.

We can sustain massive injuries at zero MPH. I was sitting at a stop sign when mrs big car pointed herself in my direction. Massive rotator cuff tear was the result.

Take pain meds, and have them ween you off of them properly.

Im sure glad my injuries from the various crashes didnt produce injuries in multiples of yours, based on the multiples of 10 MPH faster  I was going at the time of those crashes.

A 58 MPH Getoff left me in pain for anout 30 years, some continuing issues with my neck, which I broke in 3 places, but didnt know it until recently. Cuz I never went to a dr over it when it happened. Chiropractors saved me from perpetual pain.

Another at about 35 of 40, got me 4 days in hospital( I did walk about a mile to a friends house & waited 4 hours to call the dr) & a demerol shot every 4 hours, then I slammed one into the side of a truck & walked away.
First 2, no helmet, last one, helmet saved me for sure.

Only had one slow crash ,came to a stream accross the road out in the country side that was frozen solid,no damage to me or my GF,bike had the usual, handlebars, foot peg, etc, I had two fast one's one doing 70 or so,
did a few somersaults, a little flying, my bike could not be ridden home, but I did fix it ,the other was about 50 ,came around a left turn
(in England) going to bloody fast went into a truck just sitting there waiting to turn left into a driveway, Hospialized on that one, nothing broken ,but 4 inches to my right ,and I would be singing soprano.
Problem was ,it was not my bike I had just finished fixing it and a paint job, fortunatly the owner was a friend and I had great insurance,
I loaned him my P/.U truck. His bike was a triumph and I have never liked them since.

If it weren't for the drugs they give you, crashing would be no fun at all.
