SUV's and their drivers
11/05/10 at 15:03:41

What is it about people who drive large SUVs?  I have been riding motorcycles for over 50 years, and the only accident that I have been involved in was when a woman in a Chevy Suburban rear ended me at a stop light because she was busy texting on her phone. (She knocked me 18 feet into the intersection.)

Today I stop at a roadside Mexican food coach to get a bean burro for dinner.  There was a large Ford SUV parked facing the roadway with nothing in front of it.  I parked 10 feet behind this vehicle.  As I am ordering my food, a woman walks over, gets into the SUV, puts it in gear, and backs into my bike, putting it on the ground with gas pouring out the tank.  This person should not be driving a golf cart, let alone a 4000 pound monster.  Grrrrrrr!  Now I have to start looking for the bits and pieces to put it right again.

Uh oh!,...  is it still ride-able?...

I think people that know they're bad drivers, buy SUV's so they'll survive the wrecks they know they're gonna' cause...

We'll fix it... Wink...

there is truth in what you say there mate, My Daughter has a Cadilac Escalade,I asked her why she got herself a big old gas guzzler ,she said "Dad most of the time I am driving to and from school with the 3 kids, plus football for the boys Ballet for the girl,I feel better with some steel around the family" She is a good driver ,and I have given her many instructions to look out for bikes. Her husband put a scratch on the door and was she pissed, this was just last month,a week after she sent in the last payment.Always the way aint it ?.

5 years ago when I bought my Hyundai Tucson, it had to be at the dealership overnight so they could place the LoJack system in it.
I was given a new Nissan Almeda to drive.
That vehicle was so huge I felt like I was driving a tank..
The one safety feature I wish all vehicles had was a back up sensor. This sensor did not ring when backing up unless you got too close to what was behind you. And the beeping sound was very loud.
This feature could prevent accidents like the one mentioned in this thread.
Oh yeah paying more attention to what is behind, beside as well as ahead and around you can prevent accidents as well.
Yet having a lil extra help as in this kind of sensor couldn't hurt..Smiley kim

The two accidents described involve moms driving with only half their brain focused on driving, the other half focused on whatever else.

It's not the SUV, it's the driver. Sad
