Single carb V-twin ? Sopunds so much like a late model Harley to me...

Sure, Single carb V-twin sounds nice, but wouldn't that make it an Intruder ?

Now, a DR750/800 engine shoehorned into a revamped LS frame...
...maybe with efficient disc brakes all around and a 6-speed 'bow and a 4 gal tank...
...THAT would be the ideal Savage for me !!!

Cool

A DR750 with a real saddle would be enough for me.

Perfect!  Well, that's the way I voted.  I wouldn't mind her being a little heavier, but its not critical.

A 6 speed tranny would be nice for long rides down the super slab.

OK, for the EFI 900cc, but auto trans? Why autotrans, it would sound like a farm tractor or (shudder at the thought) a scooter... Lips Sealed

Hydraulic lifters and either a 6th gear or higher gearing.

I like a few of the ideas provided but not all of them.
I would like mine
fuel injected with a few extra CCs,
extended frame (leg room),
floorboards,
wider touring seat,
fat rear tire,
21" front tire,
chopped out slightly,
4 gallon tank,
6th gear,
belt drive and
aftermarket parts that are actually designed for it

Bear in mind, opinions are like butt-holes - everyone has one, and nobody cares much about anyone else's. These are my opinions.

I'd like to see hydraulic valve adjusters, fuel injection, elimination of the "need" to re-torque the head, and perhaps a little larger fuel tank. Be nice to have a way to change the oil filter without oil running all over the side of the bike, too. And a single-sided rear swing arm to make getting the wheel off much easier.

The bike "fits" me well enough, and I don't like the cruiser position with legs outstretched anyway. I prefer to have my feet under me, so I can absorb road shocks with my legs instead of my tailbone.

For gearing, what it needs is re-gearing, to make first a little lower for easier maneuvering in parking lots; high just a tad higher (but not much because it really doesn't have the torque to pull a much higher gear); and the other gears spaced out a bit. Edit: A considerably taller fifth gear would lower highway rpm, but decrease acceleration. The bike might have a higher top speed in fourth than fifth. End edit.

Better suspension, especially in the rear, would be nice, but you quickly run into limits with the low ride height. If softer more comfortable suspension is fitted, people complain about losing handling.

Bigger Tank ~ 4gal would be fine,
6th gear ~ would help with the vibration at Super Slab speeds
Better seat ~ after 45 min my back starts feeling "old school"

Anything past those I think you’re talking another bike completely. What makes this bike attractive is that you are free to improvise on just about anything.

My two bits worth...

I voted more power, but I would also like a shorter wheelbase to improve handdling, and make it easier to convert to a cafe racer.
