I just found what seems to be a pretty accurate number and it is a very anemic charging system. This is the statement: the savage alternator is three phase, output 210 watt at 5000rpm, standard charge output equals 14-15 volt dc at 5000rpm , standard no load performance equals more than 100v ac at 5000rpm
So it's 210W. How much power does Savage consume to keep running? Headlight 55W, Tail/License Plate/Instrument panel ~15W, Electronic Ignition ~25W - Adds up to ~100W. Am I forgetting anything (I should probably be counting 20W for the brake light in stop in go traffic too). Sounds like Savage really does have about 100W to spare at high rpms, maybe nothing at low ones.

I think what you've figured sounds good. You could temporarily hook up a voltmeter (multimeter) to your battery and maybe a 50watt light and do some testing at different driving conditions. Might even be fun. Other then that my guess is as good as yours. Let us know the findings if you do decide to run some tests.
