crossover parts
09/29/10 at 16:27:04

It all started with the muffler on my wife's s40. Then she didn't want it anymore; now it's mine. Then the front wheel; now I've discovered I really like working on it. I bought a set of forward controls. I know I would like to customize it; being an artist at heart; I've got some wild ideas; my question is: does anyone here know what parts from other bikes can be crossed over to the s40?

P.S.---I'm a welder.

'83-86 GS550 front and rear wheels at least. GS450 (IIRC) front end. You can ditch the belt and pulleys for chain and sprockets. Header from an SR500 is close but doesnt quite fit, but as a welder....

Cheesy I want to swap tanks and I never liked the tank mounted speedo so I'm looking for a speedo off a 250 or a dirt bike that runs off the front wheel hub.

It arrived yesterday... a wee bit shorter than our header
I've been down for 3 days with a migraine that just did not want to go away, but feel better this morning so maybe I can get some stuff done today; take it out and play with it.
It is pretty though.

How different is the ride with Intruder shocks compared to the stock ones?
Are they direct bolt on?

Intruder shocks are very soft... and long. Mine feels a bit front end heavy since Lisa and i traded shocks (her 800 Intruder now looks like how it should have shipped stock, no dirtbike fender gap).

What can you put on a Savage? Whatever you want... 12 inch muffler and 29 inch fishtail tailpipe. Shovelhead rear fender, via sidemount headlight bracket bolted to frame, with reflector mount bolted to tailpipe, sporting a Knucklehead beehive taillight and generic bullet light signals, VTX 1800 aftermarket plate mount. 15 inch rise Krome Werks apehangers with 1970s chopper grips and clamp on cat eye mirrors. Lucas/Bates replica 7 inch headlight and mounting clamps. Bates replica fork gaiters. Scrap pile sourced old gas tank. Stock seat pan with 3/4 inch of blue ensolite foam and waterbuffalo leather.

Savages are cheap. Stock is boring.... Roll Eyes
