Stalling problem
08/16/10 at 16:48:30

Coming to a stop and rolling off gas engine dies.....coast to stop.  Turn engine over several times before starting.  Go 50ft, 500 ft, one mile or ten miles.  Same thing.  Ride several days, no problem.  Tow to dealer .....dealer calls....cranks right up.....rides it 15 miles...no problem......pick up from dealer and engine dies after 10 miles(two miles from house).  Several turns on engine and I'm on my way again.
Sticking float? petcock? Bad breath?  Not bad gas...have gone through three tanks.  Your thoughts and advise appreciated.

Eliminate what you can.
First, run it in Prime all the time.  It don't hurt anything (unless you run out of gas, as there is no reserve in prime).
If it still dies, crank up the idle speed a bit.  Better to fast than too slow.
If it still dies, then I don't have another guess yet.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

YG is right on,
1st step petcock to prime, always at the 1st sign of trouble.
2nd, clean your battery terminals, check the water and check the ground beside the oil level window.
3rd, check the safeties, kickstand weak spring, clutch connectors, connectors under the tank, and right hand switches.

these are easy things to check, might not be the issue, but may lead you to it.

Will check those.  A few days back when getting inspected for tag renewal and checking the horn the sound was very weak.  I had to start engine before it made a full sound.  Have had trouble with the right(starter,etc.)switch. I have to jiggle the starter button to get the head light to come on and the horn to sound.(same circuit)

i figure i can chime in before bill does..."put some sea foam in it"  try dunking the battery in a bucket of sea foam.  oh and if your suffering from tennis elbow, arthritis, Iritable bowl syndrom, just rub some sea foam on it.  i splash a little before going out and i never end up having a cold bed to sleep on.   Grin

You need to be careful when you dunk the battery in the Sea Foam. It'll take the water right out of the battery and you'll have to refill it.

First, help the ones that are trying to help you !

When does it die out ?
You said it does it when rolling to a stop.
Does it do it any other time ?
If it does, then that completely changes the story.
If it accelerates and does hi speed well, then the main
fuel delivery is ok. I would then look for an intermittent carb problem,
or even an electrical problem.
