1. crash bars - do I need to get mfg only?
2. Additional lights for night driving - any suggestions?
3. seat needs something more, I rode Cincinnati to Chicago and back and wished I could scoot back a couple of inches but ran into the passenger seat .  Any ideas?

I love my savage - so easy to go through the curves!

Get rid of the stock 5.75" headlight. I run a 7" sidemount, as high as I could get the clamps to go towards the top triple tree. I can actually get it aimed where it needs to be, since it can be adjusted up, down, side to side... via the adjuster screws or the clamps/bucket.

You could add a driving light bar designed for a different bike with bottom mount headlight, I know that Kawi Vulcan 800s, Intruder 800s and Savage have the same headlight mounting bolt spacing.

The "crash bar" for these things is a joke. Have a local welding shop fab you one out of chromoly tubing if you want function as well as looks. It needs to mount high on the front down tube and preferably tie into the front motor mounts or just above them where the frame spreads out. I used to have one from an ancient CL Honda that was a near perfect fit. Check the local bike junkyard, you may find one that will work. The one for my 1957 Harley Panhead cost me a whopping $25, they are $90-250 new.
