left side motor case noise
07/07/10 at 08:51:40

When I release my clutch lever from shift I get a whining noise, like s clutch slipping. The clutch does not slip on acceleration after engaged, just a noise when I engage after a shift. Any ideas what might be going on.

- Oil Level?
- How many miles on that bike now?
- Is it in all gears?   First gear is a whiner, most noticeable when slowing down.

Oil level is good. There is just about 12000 on it. Could it be the nut behind the access cover on the generator cover? I vaguely remember a post about a rattle and that was a thing to check. I have never adjusted the clutch since getting the bike. It is in all gears.

right side?
whine, not a tick next to the oil filter cover?
I'd open it up and check.
maybe something like a throw out bearing, but I've never hear those go.
Now cam chains go all the time.

No the whine sounds like it is on the left side, but only when the clutch is used. Excuse the brain fart,I met to say on the left side on  the original post

front belt pulley or belt going over front pulley....
most likely the belt... depending on tension it can make noise on accel, decel, steady speed, or constantly... and can be a chirp, whine, squeak, tick, or banshee howl...

I'd say belt. Had a similar whine after putting on new tires. I'd adjusted the belt to factory specs (yes I know, I know...now! Smiley)
Anyway. The belt was waaaaay too tight. Loosened to the 90 degree method and the whine went away. Lotta strain on the front pulleytil I used the 90 degree.

Thanks for your help. I'll check the belt when I get home from work tonight.
