Back from Cancun

My good buddy Gene got a 2 bedroom condo unit in Cancun for a time share exchange.  Unfortunately, it wasn't spring break for any of his kids so someone had to use it.  Mrs. Doc and I kept him company.

But it wasn't all just pool and beach -- I also got to see some small displacement commuter bikes they don't sell on our side of the border:

Umm, make that commuter and family transportation bikes:

Welcome back drharvey's. Looks like you and the Mrs. had a nice place to vacation.

Those bikes look like they would be a blast to ride. Did you get to ride any of them while you were there?

Wow, that water's so blue it's unreal.  I'm jealous, as I sit here looking out the window at the grey and drizzle. Tongue

My , my, my,,, thats just really pretty.

Any signs of unrest? Reason to be concerned a guy might accidently have the opportunity to slow a bullet down with his chest or anything?
How far from the border is that? Pretty close innitt?

Actually it's close to two borders -- Guatemala and Belize.  Cancun is an L-shaped barrier island that now connected to the mainland by a bridge at each end.  The lagoon between the mainland and the island provides some nice protected water for small boats. It was developed starting in the '70s as a resort area, complete with a modern water treatment & desalinating plant.  The original Cancun is on the mainland at the northern end of the barrier island.  It has a Wal-Mart, some churches and a Jewish community center -- none of which we visited.

Looking across the lagoon to the mainland:

Same sun, different night:

As long as you stay in the hotel zone (the barrier island), it's as safe as any resort area.  I'm sure if you know where to look you can find drugs and/or dangerous areas, but neither was on our agenda.

Geee, dude, wheres your spirit of adventure? Dont wanna wind up in a hole for the rest of your life? Mexico prisons arent exactly like around here. If no one brings you food, youre just screwed, the way I hear it.

What a gorgeous place, congrats..

My spirit of adventure is alive, well and applied to motorcycles -- check my comment in the "I almost laid her down today" thread!

As for drugs, I'll just let Leonard speak for me:

"The recreational, the obsessional and the pharmaceutical - I've tried them all. I would be enthusiastically promoting any one of them if they worked."
