Just goes to show that man could really think outside the box.
WAY outside the box.
Look at that engine in the pictures.  That engine originally was a flat head, Burt made his own overhead valve heads and even some with overhead cams.
He cut his cylinders from water pipe, and made con rods from truck axles.
With mechanical problems, he simply never took no for an answer.

Was that info in "Fastest Indian"? I had no idea.

That info was in his biography. It was way more informative than the movie.
He claimed the particular water pipe had some metalurgical advantages, so he bought enough to keep himself in cylinders the rest of his life.
The axles were for the same reason, he liked the metalurgy of them.
He would forge them to rough shape , then machine them to fit.
I do not remember any of his stories telling of one of these rods breaking although he stressed them far more than Indian ever figured on.

Thanks, man. I was thinking I had fallen asleep somewhere during the movie.

Some web site I found claims he actually got a USED water pipe!! Scrap from some repair job. And the story says he took it 'cause it was "well seasoned"!! What a character.

What an amazing guy, highly enjoyed the film regardless,
lost of info/pictures of him, his life and bikes on the net.

Does anyone know if some kind of documentary
film/program/radio exists about Munro?

His Records

* In 1962 he set a world record of 288 km/h (178.97 mph)
with his engine bored out to 850 cc (51 in³).

* In 1966 he set a world record of 270.476 km/h (168.066 mph).

* In 1967 his engine was bored out to 950 cc (58 in³) and he set a
class record of 295.44 km/h (183.59 mph). To qualify he made a
one-way run of 305.89 km/h (190.07 mph), the fastest-ever officially-
recorded speed on an Indian.[8] The unofficial speed record (officially
timed) is 331 km/h (205.67 mph) for a flying mile.[9]

* In 2006 he was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
