What charges the battery?

I know the Savage doesn't have an alternator but what charges the batter? My battery keeps running down. I've had a trickle charger on it but it still doesn't hold a charge. It's a fairly new battery. Any suggestions??
Thanks!

When I'm on the VTX, I'm a smooth operator but when I ride the Savage, I'm back to the basics!!! (and loving it!)

It has a 3 phase generator
it's a generator cause it has magnets
yeah, still scratchin' my head too.
a lot of new batteries are bad from the get go.
but if it ain't chargin' it ain't gonna keep up no how
take a volt meter, put it across the battery terms and rev the bike up... didn't you guys say 4 or 5000 rpm's? any who should go up in voltage.
