Fork lock tumbler replacement ?
01/14/10 at 14:46:49
I have never had the keys to my 2006 Boulevard fork lock. So... this is my big ambitious winter project. Got the new lock assembly in from Ron Ayers this week. Have been staring at it for a day now wondering just how exactly it serves it's purpose, insight would be helpful although probably not imperative. Maybe if I looked at the bike that would help...but honestly the snow is really still too deep for my enjoyment out to the barn.
THE REAL QUESTION: To remove the old one, must I drill it out? If so...how deep do I want to go and how much of it's diameter do I want to drill out? As always...Thanks

first off why bother w/lockin the fork??
2 guys can lift the bike into the back of a p/u
check with your insurance carrier: the ls is the one of the leaast stolden bikes out there
to remove the fork lock'
crarefully grind down the rivet (head) holding the locks' slide cover..take can not to scarr the cover ypull need it for the new lock..
remove lock slides out..
drill out rivet shaft from nech (easy out better if you have small one)
re rivet conver after sliding in and testing new lock cylinder..
yoll need to size and find a new rivet!!

Having mispent some of my teen years performing tasks...Aw schucks let me just say, we used to pick cabinet locks in the 70's and after having taken a refresher course by watching all the pick work on detective type shows I could in one week. I decided last weekend this could prove to be the best approach. Well once I found my bifocals and some dental picks I had laying around here, I seated myself directly in front of a well lit tumber on the neck of my bike. This approach lasted all of about 3 minutes when ADD like symptoms began to creep in and I asked myself "What the hell am I doing?" Made quick work of it with the drill.
