trunks for S-40
10/27/09 at 17:32:35

Has anyone here tried a trunk for their bike verses the saddlebags? I am thinking of heading in this direction. I would need to add a luggage rack in which to attach the trunk to. Again wondering if anyone here has taken this step towards more storage?

$79.95 + 18.00 S&H

Comes with various mounting screws and a mounting plate. I ended up using the mounting plate and drilled holes right through my OEM rack to mount them through. Here's the guy's URL:

I had a soft trunk on my Savage, sitting on the luggage rack and attached to the backrest. It was big enough for a FF helmet (barely). Currently I have a hard trunk on my Connie. I would not do a soft trunk again. It was water resistant, but not water proof, so anything inside in a long downpour was going to get wet.

I had put a Dowco Overnight bag on my Savage.

It is much lighter than a plastic trunk and does not cause the luggage rack to flex when going over rough pavement.

I fastened it to the luggage rack by placing a sheet of aluminum in the bottom, drilling through the bottom and placing a carriage bolt and fender washers through the slots in the luggage rack.  It worked well.  It's big enough to carry a laptop and some other small items.

Here's another view:

I use the trunk all the time.  It carries quite a bit.
