First Mod - ok not really a mod
10/22/09 at 14:06:05
Hi Everyone
So I have had my 96 for a few weeks now, loving it. I just replaced the spark plug - took me all of 2 mins - so easy. I did not have to take the gas tank off....
I love it already.
Anyway, I put in a NGK Iridium <DPR8EIX-9> - This has made a huge! difference in the way my bike starts/idle's/performs....... The plug I pulled was copper and I have no idea how old it was, it was a little black but seemed ok, it was not fouled or anything.
Overall great investment - $10 per plug and I understand they last much longer then conventional plugs...... so win win in my eyes.
Two Thumbs up 4 sure !

i'm glad you posted. i was planning on trying one of these plugs and you saved me the time of doing a search by posting the part #.
thanks and good luck with your machine

DO NOT set a gap for Iridium - they come pre gapped - you can very easily damage the tip - just install - its great

It's a minor modification so that you don't have to take the tank off to get to the spark plug...see the link

I dont have the mod - and I did not have to take the tank off ?
The seller gave me this spark plug tool that came with the bike.
It is very basic but did the job....

I wanna know then how you did it. I cannot figure out how to change the plug without removing the tank. Please tell me how you did it.

As far as i am aware having ridden bikes for over 30 years now, all spark plugs come pre gapped from manufacturers though it never hurts to check.
Im not sure of the gap on this type of plug however against standard as i havent checked as yet.
