Worse running with increased altitude - lean/rich?
10/21/09 at 16:41:20
Too tired after 200 plus miles of mostly twisties. So I can't figure out whether worse running on the pilot jet at altitude means it's lean or rich. The main jet is fine. I do have only about 1/3 of white space thickness.
Bike stuttered badly on the pilot at 5000 ft. From off idle to just under 1/4 throttle, improved to a little over 1/4 throttle, fine from there to full throttle.
Any non-exhausted brains remember how this works?
Thanks!

Cool, I can fix that I suppose. Enough to increase spacer perhaps? Maybe I'll try that first. I have very little spacer really.
Think I'm running a 52.5 pilot with holes. I have one without holes. I suppose that makes a difference.

Standard pilot, 152.5 main, NO spacer, MAC exhaust. No issues even at 5000 ft. At 12000 miles, spark plug looked almost new.

If you arent going to be at altitude for long-
runs crappy just on pilot circuit - turn the idle adjust screw in to lean it out
runs crappy on all circuits - remove the cover for the airbox
If you're going to be at altitude a while you might aswell just rejet.

Thats why a touch on the lean side at sea level is fine for me. That way I won't be in trouble when I get into altitude now and then. I just know not to be cobbin it too hard in hot weather here at sea level.

I run a touch on the lean side, but can tell it runs stronger the warmer it is.

FWIW....
The jetting, inlet, and exhaust on mine (see signature) are all stock. I
have
fiddled with the pilot screw a bit.
I live at 6500' above sea level and my bike runs great up here.
It also ran good in Houston, TX, but it backfired more down there.
