10/08/09 at 18:54:36

Hi everyone
New Owner - Just had a question about the drive belt on the s40 - what mileage do these belts get replaced....mine has 30,000kms and looks just fine.
Super fun bike - I was a previous sport bike rider - this little thumper is alot of fun...Smiley

I think the question is more along the line of "Has anyone ever had any trouble with the belt, other than it squeeking like a demented mouse."

Ive never seen anyone drop the $$$ to just replace one. So far, they seem to be a "forever" part. Maybe if one got left in the sun long enough it would become apparently compromised & need replaced. A few have broken, but typically, if one is in need of being replaced, its because a rock or something went around & the pulley shoved it thru, messing the belt up. I replaced mine for that reason. But I got mine for cheap from Barry, who pioneered the conversion to chain & sprockets.

I've heard of one snapping
a few get rocks pushed thru the belt
a few wear the edges for one reason or another.

over the few years that I've been here, that's not a lot.

I replaced mine at 51,000 just because I had heard it was good for 50,000 miles.

I have an '06 with over 4k miles and have never heard a peep from my belt!  I know that's not alot of miles, and some complain about it, but I haven't had any trouble with it... <knock on wood>
