Hello, I installed tires for 2 years and sold them for about 12. BFG,  Remington (Dunlop), General, Michelin, etc. If you wanted it we did it. As long as it wasn't just dangerous. I am conscientous and warned some people about what they were doing in the name of "looks". I saw a teen running 20lbs in his car tires because they looked good to him.
I LOVE the look of darkside tires, but have NO experience with them.

Here is what I know about car tires.
Example: 155/80R15 86H
155 mm wide (section width) Michelin and General usually a little wider.
80 aspect ratio The sidewall from bead to ground is 80% of section width.
R means radial ply as opposed to bias ply
15 means 15" rim. Also rim width has a lot to do with performance and longevity. Narrow rim or too much air rounds tread and wears middle. Wide rim or too little air wears outer edges of tread.
86 is basically load index. Usually the larger tires in same brand have a higher load index. Remember, Suburbans and Tahoes are heavy.
H is sustained speed rating. Usually they are designed for better handling also. (Tread pattern, nylon overbands to keep it round at speed, softer compounds, a little less mileage, but that has improved greatly).
I remember selling 155sr15 tires for Beetles and front tires for drag racing. I need to research those and check dimensions. Car tires are definitely not overloaded on the Savage.

Now, how about darkside FRONT tires? Been done?  Boofer

No, not done.

Any potential advantage of a darkside front is not known because we have no 19 inch auto tire that is of a physical format suitable to replace the front motorcycle tire.

Best we have done for the Savage is to identify some Chen Sheng rip offs of an old BMW touring bike Metzler design that offered an old style hard rubber long mileage touring design.   For cheap.

=============

Boofer, please don't start out too all fired enthusiastic about Darkside tires -- start out all skeptical instead and get slowly converted by hard evidence against your better judgment.

It is safer that way.

You got to savor the experience a while, roll it around in your mouth and let your taste buds slowly report all the nuances.

Remember, when we see someone jump in all enthusiastic-like it reminds us of young Barry Blowup, a young man that showed us that folks can read a somber discussion (skimming just the surface) and then run go do some amazingly silly stuff based off of what little bit he had read.

He never read that putting 175 pounds of air in a tire causes it to blow up like a stick of dynamite.  So he did it.

He never read that "sticking your bead" with spray truck bed liner stuff is a bad thing to do.  So he did it.

He didn't know about having to lubricate the bead to get it to seat, and NEVER going past 90 psi to seat the bead of a tire.

He didn't understand about tubes, spoke heads, rim strips and spoons.

Barry was either a troll who spun us a complete tall tale of his personal tire mounting disaster or he was an eternal warning against enthusiasm in the realm of tires and tire mounting.

You takes your pick.

And here you come, all enthusiastic asking us about darkside front tires.   You are going to upset our robot with questions like that.

Oldfeller,
Don't worry about me and darksiders. I just love the way they LOOK. I am a long way from replacing my IRCs, and I will probably use Dunlop K555 rear and D404 front. I used Dunlop many years ago on Kawi 500 and 750 triple two strokes. I know Metzlers are good tires from experience. I'm looking at an Me 880 possibly for the rear. I can assure you I will use stock sizes on both ends. I like the IRCs and may even go back with them. My options are open, and at age 56 I don't rush in to spending money I don't have or using a product not suited to safety. Someone on here stated it's not good to buy high mileage tires that will dry rot before you get to use them up. Great advice when taken with riding habits and safety in mind also. Sorry to upset your robot. I am here to help younger riders with my experience, not to cheer them on toward the cliff.   Boofer

IRCs are fine for those folks who can ride them until they dry rot.

Tire usage is a function of miles ridden and your riding style.   My IRC didn't make 6,000 miles so I am not the one to tell you how to get them to last that long.

I kinda sensed you were sp-Boofering us a bit with the question you asked and yes, there is a cliff out there for the Barrys among us to fall off of.

And yes, by all means let's keep the Barrys away from the cliff edge ...

Yes, let's not send some poor "barry" to his cliff.  However, I AM going darkside on my Vulcan and Savage when the tires go.

Good deal on the Shocks.... Just need to buy a tire.
I have had the bike since July 06 had 2,100 miles now I am approaching 22,000
I am replacing my back tire every year
Have had the stock
IRC 7.5K
D404 about 9k
and the current Dunlop k???  whatever it is
I put it on in November of last year now it is slick.

Just a quick question on the side: I have an '06 as well, approaching 11,000 miles on it. Have you done anything to the cam tensioner yet?
Again don't mean to hijack this thread, just curious.

Cam adjusters -- I have two paths to take on that.  I cut up some copper to make an experimental hydraulic anti-reverse full travel unit that is unproven at this time and I welded me up a purely mechanical Verslavy unit that is a well proven technology and is known to work well.

When the cover comes off, I will put one in.

I won't do anything to mine until winter shut down time, by then I'll have me a Lancer stage 2 cam in and enough time to play around with it.

Right now I am playing with "fix the speed wobble", my latest technological challenge.

Stealing threads is a well accepted activity on this board, as they always start with an honest question.
