It seems like mixing it with the 10-40 is not a good idea,as someone suggested.Or should I just stick with the 10-40 even if my engine seems a little noisy.I'm not sure.Thanks

It describes the operating range of diff weight oils. Either 10-40 or 20-50 is probably fine for your range if you are not running it in International Falls MN in the winter. Mixing oils with diff additive packages is not a good idea.

I use 15-40 (oops edit not 20-50) Rotella diesel oil lately from Walmart - since our bikes don't have a cat, I think the extra zinc/ZDP may be good.

Noisy may be normal anyway.

n.b. don't use oil marked "energy saving" or you will get slipping clutch. I think 10 is a little low but if your clutch doesn't slip then it doesn't matter.

c2001, 3800miles, 3rd owner, adjusted idle, raised seat, Tkat brace, Raptor petcock, cleaned carb, replaced some jets, Dyna muffler, Fiamm horns, Shinkos, future Ed L. forward controls, fork boots.

The Suzuki manual lists 20W-50 good from the hottest temperatures down to +14°f. I run a syn blend 20W-50 with very good results.

There is nothing wrong with mixing oils, although no great benefit. Pick one oil that works very well and stick with it unless circumstances change.

I'd avoid every automotive 10W-40 oil. No 10W-40 can carry the "Energy Saving" emblem. The friction modifers in some automotive engine oils may cause the clutch slippage. My mechanic says that he can rely on Castrol Syntec to cause clutch slippage.

A diesel 15W-40 or syn 5W-40, or a 20W-50, or a motorcycle oil will be more robust. I don't think Shell makes a Rotella T 20W-50, just dual-rated diesel & gasoline engine 10W-30, 15W-40, syn 5W-40, and various diesel single weight oils. 20W-50 is not a viscosity grade for diesels.
