07/16/09 at 18:00:00

I'm am a newbie here so please bear with me!  I have resently purshased a "07" s40 and I am pretty pleased with it other then the quiet muff.  So i put on HD muff...now my confussion is the carb. Do I  rejet don't have to re-jet, do the white spacer mod, if so with 2#4 washers, no washers, if Ihave to re-jet what too, 152.5, 150. and what about the pilot so much imfor. here don't know whats right or wrong. The bike seems to run ok but dose backfire on decel. I know this topic has been hashed over many time but I would appeciate the help

A loud POW on shut down. Speaks for itself man lol. Othewise sounds like a gun shot going off when you shut down the bike.

I just read a thread that people are using a #55 pilot, 152.5 main jet and a half sized nylon washer for the spacer in the needle (half the the thickness of the stock spacer in the carb). Someone please correct if I am wrong. Oh yeah! Post this in the rubber side down section.

backfires due to lean pilot fuel circuit.
try #52.5 pilot jet with pilot screw turned out 1.5-2 turns out;
shave white spacer on needle by 1/2 or replace spacer with 3 washers;
try #152.5 main jet

those setting should get you in the ballpark, then adjust from there.

Welcome aboard Smiley I have a love hate relationship with my Savage. I hate not riding her, and love riding her lol When you are done and comfy with that carb mod, you swap the stock carb for a vm 36 or 38mm roundslide carb. Then put in a UFO and a Dial a Jet. They are the easiest ever to install mods, tuning is a different story lol. Well worth it for the performance you get.
