What should I do? Should I take it to a mechanic?
Shop around to find a 14 mm combination end wrench or box end wrench with a six point box end. If you don't find one on the shelf, you can have a good hardware store or auto parts store order one for you. Look at the upper wrench in this image. The six point wrench contacts more area of the flats on the head and does a better job.
Maybe someone wrenched on it with a 9/16" wrench which is just a bit too big?...or a cheapo open end wrench which spread under load?...or pulled hard on it the wrong way? I don't see how the drain plug can be grabbed good enough with Vise Grips to get it out. If the six-point end wrench doesn't do the job, take it to a pro before it is damaged worse. Be sure you have the new plug to re-install
and a new gasket for the drain plug.
Do you know which way to turn the drain plug to remove it? Always, when looking straight at the head you need to turn it counterclockwise...lefty loosey.
