Help: 20amp fuse keeps blowing
06/28/09 at 15:02:52

I was riding earlier today and the Savage was running great! all of the sudden while I was riding the bike shutdown & had no electrical power and the engine shut-down.

I noticed that one of the (yellow) 20-amp fuses below the right side of the seat was blown. I walked to a auto-parts store, got a new 20 amp fuse and put it in. I turned on the ignition key and there there was no response (completley dead). I looked at the fuse and the new fuse was blown immediatley.

Any ideas on correcting this problem. It seems as if something is shorting out? and blowing the 20 amp fuse?

I forgot to mention that the fuse that keeps blowing is the top fuse (there are two 20-amp fuses one on top of the other. The bottom fuse is fine, it's the top fuse that keeps blowing?

Update: I have taken off the seat, removed the battery. Wires look good, not sure why this is causing the 20-amp fuse to blow? I have gone through 4 new fuses so far.

As soon as i turn the key to the on position (the fuse immediatley blows)? wonder why this is?

ANY IDEAS?

You have a short somewhere...

I can't find it, but somebody here posted a great way to find a short with a test light.
Hope they spot your post.

In the meantime, don't wast your time blowing any more fuses, and definitely don't bypass the fuse or you'll burn up the wiring harness.

Try some searches here, and check back to see if someone replies.
Sorry I'm not more help.
Wiring shorts give me fits... Huh

Thanks for referencing that post! I was able to check the wires, replace the + battery cable, replaced the fuse and it fixed the problem.
