hey guys
my rear sigs wouldn't pass inspection b/c of the electrical tape holding them together - so decided to replace with (much cheaper than suzuki) aftermarket .
problem: - these have a bolt on mount that doesn't match the size of stock holes... need to find a way to make it fit!
somebody else (d-jim?) did this by fab'ing a bracket, but i wanted to try to use the same holes
as you can see totally different
after market is 3/8" on outside, stock mounting hole is 5/8" on inside.
to make it fit - got a bushing at the hardware store for a buck or two. the closest they had was 1/2" ID , 5/8 OD, but a few wraps of tape around the stem of the aftermarket sig made it fit snugly.
the bushing was 1" long, perfect to make two adapters when sawed in half ...
bushing fits snugly over the tape wrapped stem...
tighten down the mounting nut to hold it all together...
the stock sig mounts with a screw
into the stud, i'm just going to tighten against the outside of the bushing. used a tap to thread
this hole ( i think it was 5/16 - 24) then got the appropriate bolts to fit
I guess i forgot to take a pic of the finished product
Also I went back and changed a few things... mainly I used a 5/16 bit to drill partway through the bushing where the bolt tightens down - just made a dimple for the bolt to dig into. also added blue loktite
btw here's a pic of me on the bike
now you know my name!
