How do I install the Savage saddlebag supports?
06/21/09 at 20:26:02

I got some nice saddlebags, but unfortunately they  need supports otherwise they touch stuff.

So I ordered a set of the standard supports for the LS650 and now I am embarrassed to say i can't figure out how to install them.

Anyone have any ideas?

aint it a beotch?  Got the equipment but don't know how to use it?

They mount to the inside of the rear fender.
2 bolts (each side) will match up with the bracket.
One of the forward bolts with the acorn nut on the outside.
and one in the middle or rear.
Don't know for sure cause there are 2 types of brackets.
They should have given you 4 bolts.
These will be slightly longer than the installed ones.

Did you order from sevier savage? He makes a wicked pair and dirt cheap too. Yep the bolts are inside the fender. The long part goes to the back of the fender just in behid where your turn signal is. The bold is up just a tad. Then your other bolt is near the center of the fender. This one helps to hold up your fender strut from the inside of the fender. I highly suggest taking off your two bolts with the visible nuts (the two just at the end of the strut, under your seat) or else it will be impossible to re-align your middle bolt through the hole and fender strut. Its a pregnant dog at first but I can do mine in about 20mins now. Took an hour the first. I used a number 12 wrench and my hand barely fit between the tire and fender. You can use the socket wrench from your bike tool kit for the rear bolt.

As noted in my OP I got the standard kind.

I'll give it a shot installing them this weekend, I was just staring at the back and couldn't figure out how they go on!

I wish they'd include some sort of instructions...or even mentioned in the owner's manual. I hate how motorcycle people just assume everyone is handy Smiley

in the marketplace there is a thread about supports for sale. I don't have any made ahead right now so it's about a week to ship.

Highwayman - if you got them from your Suzuki dealer they should have instructions. Mine did. What year's your bike. If it's post '05 I can send you a scan of my instructions. PM me with your email address.
