Help from fellow Savagers :)
03/30/09 at 12:54:15

***UPDATE*** I've gotten a lot of help that I may have wired my current signals incorrectly, and although that is probably true, I really don't like them and am looking for advice on replacements...

Hey all,

I am having a heckuva time. I changed my stock turn signals, front and back with what (I thought) were some pretty slick signals. Turns out they are not bright enough, and blink strangely. I want to replace them with something LARGER and round (again).

My stock signals were broken, and one of the fork mounts had cracked off, so I cracked off the other one too. So, using the stock ones won't work unless I replace the fork mounts, which looks to be a lot of work since they are a die cast piece that seem to only be able to be installed by taking the front end apart.

I have looked relentlessly online for something that I hoped would work. 3 wire for the front so I can have running lights. I'm really having a very hard time finding ANYTHING that appears as though it will work.

Anyone had a (relatively) easy time replacing their turn signals all around with something that is still very easily visible?

Any suggestions or better yet, links, to what they did, would be immensely appreciated.

What did you replace them with? Are they L.E.D.s or incandescent bulbs like stock? When you say flash funny, exactly what do you mean?

suggest you have a wiring problem.
which even if you get new signals, you may or may not have.
suggest you get with it and track down the problem.

Were your signals DOT approved?
Which ones did you get?

c'mon fess up.

I can't tell but it looks like those are L.E.D.s, are they flashing fast, is that what you mean by flashing funny?

I replaced them with incandescent 25/8 watt I believe.
What would happen, is when I did the turn signals, they would not flash very bright, and you could see the opposing signal slightly flash too, though not very noticeably.

I of course could have wired incorrectly, but I didn't see much room for screwing it up. I tried several combinations, most wouldn't work AT ALL, some seemed to cause a shorting.

Shouldn't I be able to just wire up only ONE signal in the 4, and turn on the signal, and it will work correctly, or do I need all 4 wired for the circuit to work as expected?

The rear blinkers seem to do their business just fine.

Yes you can install one at a time.

You may have the ground wire interchanged with one of the signal wires.  One of the wires should be ground to frame.  Same with the light.

They blink a little faster than I would expect, and dimmer. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the running light filament is staying lit as well when they flash. And Like I said in a previous post, the flash is "ghosting" on the opposing side.

I meant on the after market ones he got. It looks like in the photo that all four of them have 3 wires coming out of them. Black, black with white and a red.

I see no reason why they shouldn't be working. All share a common ground, maybe it is getting feedback from a wrong wire. On the bike Black with a thin white line is ground. Which eventually feed into each other.
