Yep, that's exactly what I experienced- pilot air adjusting screw set at 2-2.5 turns out with the #52.5 pilot (occasional light decel backfire still present), while it needs only .5-1 turn out with the #55 pilot (just a tad too rich at idle).
Lancer, do you have any #55 jets for the stock carb with no bleed holes? PM and I'll paypal you.
I only have the holy ones on hand, but will order some stock type next time

I did get a #52.5 but went with the #55 with the mixture screw 1 turn out. I had it 1.5 but that was to much. I went with a #55/#155 combo because my pipes are almost straight pipes with the harley baffle gone and I would rather have some gurgle on decel then POP POP lol. Seems to run rich but good on my current setup. Have not trashed the plug yet but I will have to keep an eye on things.
As to the OP I clamped down both ends of the vac line and its better but still doesnt seem like its getting enough fuel. It runs and stays running now on "on" but still seems to run better on "PRI". The hose is a little to big on the I.D. as Jim thought. This problem may have been original and not related to the carb, could be petcock issues.
