Just ordered a Kenda Challenger

140/90/15 rear tire for $80 from my local dealer. It was way more than I'd have paid online, but I might get to build his house someday or he might eat at the restaurant where my kid works.
Anyway, I'm anxious to see if a new one fits, or if I'll have to grind the edges off. Now I have to remember how to get the rear wheel loose. Can't remember if I need to pull all the tin that hides the belt and whatnot.
Hee Hee! Wrenching season is about to begin, and I've forgotten everything I thought I knew. Now I get to learn it all over again. That's the fun part for me.

If you can get the rear high enough for the pulley gear to clear, you don't have to pull the beltguard...
if you can't,... remember, the rear beltguard bolt goes into a slide out tab, not a hole,... so you don't have to remove it completely...

I'm anxious to pull it out in the yard and start snooping again. I have it in the back room, and it's just too tight in there to do much work.
I remember it wasn't major surgery when I swapped the wheel last time, but enough little pieces and parts were laying about that I don't want to be crowded when I do the job.
Gotta decide now if I want to mount the tire or just pay to have it done.
A few bucks
Learn something new and possibly scuff my wheel?

You can do it but it's a lot of work w/o the proper tools.
If you got an old tire, throw that on the ground put the wheel on top of it.

I bought a Kenda front tire for another bike. It seems good enough. I always by Taiwanese replacement tires.
Last time I changed my rear tire, it seems like I wished I had taken off the belt guard first. I think I was able to get it to work without taking it off though. Expect the belt to squeak when you put it back together.
It's a good education changing tires, but it can be infuriating. On my other bike, I had to cut into the tires to weaken the beads enough to break them. I chipped the aluminum rim too
I broke the bead easily enough on my Savage rear tire though. I think I stepped on it.

Well, when I ordered the tire, I told the guy I really wanted to buy local, but I was looking at the same tire at Dennis Kirk for a little over fifty bucks. So he knows he barely made the sale. As it was, I didn't order a new tube due to budget contstraints. Maybe he'll take pity on me and offer to throw in the install.
If not, I have lots of clamps, bars, and other heavy objects that can probably be redesignated as tire changing equipment.
It's still a small town, and they know their customers. We'll see if that counts for anything.

You might offer to do a few things for the guy, either swap some of your skills for it or sweep up, haul trash out, just the offer might get the tire mounted. Or, you might actually get to haul the trash out,, I would for a free tire mount.
Paying the local guy more for what I can get online is just something I do sometimes. Gotta support the local guy IF I want to know he's gonna be there when I need him.
The folks here dont mount the tires I buy for free. Its High, seems I paid near 30? Crazy high IMO.Maybe I am wrong on that..but the guy did fix a flat for me for free.Swapped the tube out, I bought the tube & he slapped it in.Fair enough..

I just ordered a set of Duro's from the stealership. I thought about ordering online but the price was not toooo much different and I am really trying to keep SOME of my money local these days.
I am also gonna shell out the $160 and let them change the tires. So all in all $305.00. I usually pull the tires off myself and just bring in rims and new tires for a $40 swap but I am just really not in the mood to do it myself right now. I know, I am being lazy
But its one of the few things I am fairly confident I can pay a "pro" to do that wont involve them messing something up and making more work for me later lol.

Well, I got the tire on the bike today. Took the wheel to the dealer and just had them do it for me. It cost twenty five bucks.
I took it for a little spin this afternoon. I estimate that the new tire and the new Jardine slash cut slip-on have effectively doubled my horse power. Lots more torque, too. Let's see, what else?... Oh yeah, mileage is much better.
Well maybe not, but it sure sounds nifty. And the new tire will be peace of mind for this summer at least.
I got the bug, so I spent the afternoon saddle soaping and greasing my saddle bags. Then I greased mine and Kay's riding boots. Then I cleaned all my luggage and repainted my homemade trunk. Gotta mend a tear in my jacket, and I will be ready to ride.
We have a winter storm warning in effect tonight and tomorrow. That seems wrong, somehow.
