CA Evaporation control system
03/13/09 at 10:30:57

Hi there
I have a 1986 CA import here in the UK. Can I do away with the carbon canister system and just let the tank breathe normally? I suspect the valve is not working (can't blow air down the pipe towards the canister) don't need it for our regs anyway.

Thanks
Mark

Several thing you need to do.

1) three lines coming out of the carb and go to the canister.  Two on each side vent the fuel bowl.  They will need to be re-routed up under the tank (likethe non-CA models do).  Third one goes into the carb air stream.  That needs to be capped.

2) The Fuel tank has a sealed fuel cap and a small vent line that connects to the tank in the tunnel and goes down to the canister.   Two choices here,  plug the vent connection, and vent the cap (or buy a vented cap).  Second is to keep the sealed cap and run the vent line up high on the handle bars like off-road dirt bikes do.

Carb vent lines don't go to canister.

Had a thought, A fuel filter would make a good replacement for the canister as it would catch some overfill, recycle the vapors and block back fires from blowing thru the tube.
