Cutting out
03/08/09 at 15:56:12

Hey guys. Anyone else have or had a problem with their bike cutting out at highway speed around 60-75 mph. Mine will do it after about 15-20 minutes of continuous speed. It was almost as if I was running out of gas but I had only been riding about 20-30 miles since filling up. I switched to reserve and it would still sputter and almost die. Then I switched to prime and it would finally smooth out. I would ride on prime for a couple minutes and then back to on and it was fine.  Then about 15-20 miles it would happen again. Does this sound like a petcock problem or something else? It seems more like maybe the petcock is starting to act up to me. Any ideas? Thanks

Mario

Check your vac line, there may be a hole in it. The symptoms you describe indicate a vacuum leak.

Try replacing the vac line, but also tighten up the screws on the back side of the petcock.
Mine acted like this too, if finally started leaking this year, found gas in the vac line.  so make this one of your monthly checks.

Do the raptor petcock, no more troubles. Except when you forget to put the petcock to fuel and spend 15 minutes tring to push start it.
Don't ask.

I didnt see an answer that I thought was "IT", but danged if I am getting it. I need lore details.

What happens if you drop the speed down for a few miles?
I would put it on prime when it messes up & if that solves it, then Id be looking at the flow rate thru the petcock.
I think it sounds like you are running the bowl low on fuel somehow.
HEY!! Do we see a loss in vac as the throttle is opened? Is this caused by low vac? Is it possible the vac diaphragm is getting stiff?

Savage,

If it is still acting up, you may be developing a vacuum in your fuel tank.
