Silly question
02/16/09 at 09:09:06

I've been tinkering with my bike again and I can't remember what this is called or its function. Anyone care to take a look and throw me a bone?

I was also wondering of the placement. Does it need access to a large amount of airflow? etc.

Also, here is a picture of of my ride while I was messing with it yesterday. I'll post some new pics when I have the other things finished today.

Sorry about the link, first picture on here. Was having a little trouble with the pics and didn't have time to mess with it now.

Thanks!

It does need to dissipate heat, I think it's called a rectifier?
It does away with excess voltage from the stator in the form of heat, from whats leftover when charging the battery. Boy I hope thats right.
Just put it where it can feel some wind. Mine is under the seat, moved it a few inches when I did a sportster conversion.

This is the rectifier thing we talked about last week or two.

Thanks for the input. I'll look up rectifier in the old posts now that I know what it's called.

Also, how do I post pics directly like you did? I tried to do it but it kept saying they were too big even though I re-sized them. I looked up in the help section and it said something about getting permission from a n admin or moderator?

Best,
Ben

Do you think if I silicone it to something it would disturb the heat dissipation? Basically I'm running out of places to hide things Smiley

In some cases, it gets hot.  Being that it gets bolted to a great big heat sink, I would think Isolating it would be asking for trouble.

I'd bolt it to the lower part of your fender right above the swingarm.

Your muffler bracket has a flat spot on it right under the battery area that is just calling for it to be mounted to it.

Someone actually did this not very long ago. I found this in another post. I am doing the exact same thing. I'd post a photo of mine but its getting powder coated right now.

The file server on the site is pretty full..  You have to use the "insert image" link when creating or replying to a thread.  And insert the link to your photo inside of the two tags thingies.

{img]insert the URL link to your photo here [/img}
