Seeing this just made me have to ask Oldfeller something. If we stretched the back of our bikes out and widened the frame for bigger tires, could we do a two stage thing for the belt drive? You know, use the belt drive on the engine connected to a second with a higher (or lower) gearing right behind it that would then be run to the rear wheel? This could give us an offset so the belt could run back in a straight line and not have to angle outwards around the tire. Then those of us who didn't want to go the chain route could spend a L-O-T of money, have a very strange looking bike to get different ratios to the back wheel AND be the talk of the group at our next therapy session.

Come on oldie, help me out here.

That's an '00 or better engine.

Must've used one of the industrial belts available.

Could be stock belt, pulleys appear to be stock and I can't see any swing arm mods apart from both shocks being on left side.

You are talking about a jackshaft.  They generally shift the drive belt/chain to the other side of the wheel.

Offset chain drive sprockets can be machined up.   They would require something trick about the nut to hold them on (recessed into the offset sprocket).

Wider than what I have now really isn't worth all the extra work to me.  What I have now is a "practical maximum" for the Savage -- what you folks are talking about is cosmetic surgery for appearance sake.   Go to it, it is all yours.

The rear brake looks pretty effective. I really like a lot of the elements of the bike.

Braking the drive line looks cool but is on the dangerous side of things.
