If I was gonna fix that I would drill & fill with wire. Its not easy, but unless thats done I wouldnt trust it. I JB welded a mirror stalk with 1 thread in the jam nut months ago & its holding. It has 2 metal dowells, one just a skinny wire, the other is 1/8th carbide.

I would either lightly glue the piece on & use a tiny drill bit to make drilling the holes so they line up easy. Or, drill a hole, build a transfer punch to mark the small piece when its pressed into place. But, this makes drilling the second hole hard , because getting the exact direction is nearly impossible. A small hole would work like a pilot.

Or, you could cut some grooves in the stem & JB some wire splints across the cracked spot. Piano Wire from the Hobby Store is great for little jobs like this.

* EDIT,, Okay, went & looked again. If you JB that thing in place then drill thru at an angle, crossing the crack, from 2 directions, you should be able to make that bulletproof. Small drillbits are cheap & can be used in the hole, with JB weld.

file the broken section flat and drill it in the center for a small stud. make a replacement piece from a suitable diameter aluminum rod with a hole to pick up the stud. jb weld it all together. use the good side as a pilot hole to drill out the replacement side for the float pin.
as a side note, many of the suzuki dr650 bunch are installing a mikuni tm or hs 40mm pumper carbs with good results. if your adventurous you can look over at the thumper talk site. the dr650 jetting should be very close to the ls650 needs.

Well right now im not looking to fix this problem. As much as i want to ride im not about to rig it up to make it work. And with my luck if I did try to fix this my next post would probably be " Had to push my bike home today". Ive talked with a few of my co-workers and none of them would trust JB weld especially being submerged in gas all the time. I would rather fix it the right way instead of risk being stranded. Thanks for the replies but ill be searching for a carb and hopefully if i get a return on my taxes i will buy one then.

the other,...good post,....is long enough to support the pin, which will in turn support the JB welded post.... it just has to stop the float from jiggling off the pin....
I think it would do O.K,...... and I have a lot of experience fixing things I've screwed up....
it would probably even hold itself in place with no JB or anything,... just the one post supporting the pin and holding the other post in place....

Reply #12 -** 02/02/09 at 23:38:38 I think I'd go the aluma pro weld way. 1) the weld won't be attached by the gas. 2) many applications for the weld, patching pores in the covers, fixing other breaks such as clutch perch, or mirror perch. 3) adding material, such as cam journals.

I have had it for 3 years now and have
been meaning to fix it ever since.

Would you want know how I solved it?

well ...I did nothing, that's right, I just
secured the pin to the unbroken side
and put the carb back together, the
square shape of the bowls' wall leaves
it NO SPACE to move or get lose once
it's on, never had a problem; as long
as that pin is well secured to that one
unbroken arm seems to be enough
for the floater to work properly.
But just knowing it's broken
still annoys me though.

* I like dr1445's solution the best, it's an easy
do-it-at-home solution that could work.
However, if you can, weld it!
